Is 588 a bad credit score for a college student?

I’m a 20 year old college student with 2 credit card accounts and three student loans, I was told my credit score isn’t bad I just don’t have enough credit by my credit union, but every where I read they say its a bad score. Will renters take it into consideration that that both credit card accounts are paid on time even though they have high balances?

588 is a good score for a 20 year old.

I wouldn’t think it’s good at all. I can’t see why it would be that low when the cards are paid on time (although the high balance can affect the score). I’m 21 and have five credit cards (a couple with no balance, one with a low balance, one with a balance of about a third of the credit, and another with a balance of over half of the credit used) and two student loans and I always pay on time, and my score last time I looked was 740.
